Bellinger's acrobatic snag caps Yankees' home opener win
New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger preserved an 8-2 victory over the Miami Marlins with a stunning ninth-inning catch on April 3, 2026, at Yankee Stadium. The Gold Glove winner sprinted 62 feet to track a deep drive by Marlins infielder Xavier Edwards, but the ball glanced off his wrist after he misjudged it. Mid-jump, Bellinger swung his arm around and snagged the ball at knee level.
Bellinger, a former Los Angeles Dodgers star, later downplayed the play. "I should have caught it the first time," he said, noting he squeezed his glove too early. "I definitely got lucky. Threw my glove out there."
Aaron Judge hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the first inning to spark the win. The Yankees improved to 6-1, their second such start in three seasons. Miami, which entered with a franchise-best 5-1 record, fell short in the Bronx.
