Bucknor's errant out call reversed on Bauers in Brewers win
MILWAUKEE — Umpire C.B. Bucknor called Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers out at first base on Tuesday despite replay evidence showing he touched the bag. The miscall came in the bottom of the sixth inning of the Brewers' 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at American Family Field. Bucknor worked first base as Rays second baseman Ben Zobrist knocked down Bauers' liner off pitcher Cole Sulser and threw wide.
Bucknor ruled Bauers missed the bag on his rushed throw and called him out after a tag. Video review overturned the decision moments later, sending Bauers to first base. Bauers smiled on his return, as did Brewers manager Pat Murphy and Rays manager Kevin Cash.
Former New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain reacted on X: "This is so bad you just have to laugh!! Something has to be done." Bauers finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, including a solo home run off Yoendrys Gomez in the eighth. Catcher Gary Sánchez also hit a solo homer in the sixth.
The Brewers improved to 4-1. The Rays fell to 2-3.
