Castroneves recounts traffic stop for triple-digit speed
Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves said he was once pulled over after driving above 100 miles per hour on a public road.
The 51-year-old Brazilian driver, who seeks a record fifth victory in the 110th running of the race, made the comments during an appearance on the program Planet Tyrus.
Castroneves recalled the officer warning that the speed was not permitted and noting the authority to issue a ticket, which Castroneves accepted.
He said frequent traffic stops were common earlier in his life but that he has driven more cautiously since the birth of his now 16-year-old daughter.
Castroneves added that he avoids pushing the limits of rental cars to prevent breakdowns and noted his preference for low-mileage vehicles when possible.
