Cowherd Drops Bills To No. 2, Keeps Seahawks Atop Rankings
Colin Cowherd released his Week 2 Herd Hierarchy rankings, dropping the Buffalo Bills from the top spot to No. 2 and keeping the Seattle Seahawks at No. 1 following a slate of games across the league. Five teams entered the rankings for the first time after strong performances in Week 2, while the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs all moved up the list.
Cowherd's top ten, from 10 to 1, ran: Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks. Cowherd praised the Seahawks for winning despite what he called a backup quarterback situation, noting Seattle has absorbed losses at running back and cornerback while still fielding what he described as the league's fastest defense sideline to sideline, allowing 3.8 yards per play. He flagged the team's reliance on wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has accounted for four of Seattle's five total touchdowns this season. The Bills, at 2-0, earned praise for quarterback Josh Allen's play under an offensive-minded head coaching staff, with tight end Dalton Kincaid leading all players at his position in receiving yards. Cowherd also credited Buffalo's defense for its draft investment, ahead of the team's matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Elsewhere in the rankings, Cowherd highlighted quarterback Jared Goff of the Lions as the only starter this season without an interception through six touchdown passes, and pointed to the Bengals' defensive turnaround after struggles against the run in previous seasons, including holding Houston's running backs to 18 yards on 14 carries. He also noted the Saints' fourth-quarter surge against Baltimore and rookie quarterback Tyler Shough's efficiency in road games.
